    CL Heads Up: Model 19's

Rare ALTEC LANSING MODEL 19 Model Nineteen
Cabs look great--seller says he believes they're all original. I'd like to see a close up of the 416's. My main concern would be that these 19's must have been pushed pretty hard "one of the high frequency diaphragm has one tinsel resoldered". I haven't had to resolder a lead on a diaphragm since the 90's when I was dumb enough to use a Phase Linear 400 to power my band's PA speakers (416-8A's with 806-8A's and 511B horns) and LOUD feedback from a mic fractured a lead...... I would definitely want to inspect the diaphragms if I auditioned these. At least the seller seems to be honest--many would not mention the diaphragm repair.....

    Acually IMHO overpriced considering.

I have seen so many broken leads, it's no biggie. All a tone deaf person has to do is crank the horns to full and they will blow at any provocation.

But I think 1200-1400 is typical, and a hundred dollar repair puts these at 1500..

I wouldn't pay more than a thousand, or just wait. As I'm fond of saying, the deal is out there...

    He doesn't mention the pedestals.
Nothing like a great big pair of speakers to make your day.

The mounting bases were optional (at least for the first couple of years or so). You could order Model 19's with or without the "optional mounting bases". (see upper left corner of this page the paragraph under the "OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS" paragraph
    http://www.altecpro.com/pdfs/vintage...r%20Manual.pdf
They also show a picture of the 19 without the optional mounting base -- when you hang it upside down in a recording studio for example.

Agreed they are overpriced. I paid $1070 for my first pair of nineteens, and $1300 for my second pair -- both mint and all original and even had mint grills -- no repairs necessary. If I was interested I'd see if there's some flexibility in the price of the CL ad......

Re: CL Heads Up: Model 19's

Those Cabs are in really nice shape from the pictures ! And is worth the $1400 if all the components are original IMHO.The last 3 pair on eBay sold for between $1500- $2500 IIRC. Diaphragms aren't a problem ($90 a piece) ! It does look like a water ring mark on top of one of the cabs, but again no big deal can take them out quite easily. Shipping would be the problem. If a local buyer could pick them up would be a good deal.Should have 802-8G's and 416-8B's in them for 1978.

Re: CL Heads Up: Model 19's

To each his own AB. You would pay it, I would not. For 1400 I would not want any repairs needed.

Bear in mind to do it right both frams should be replaced. Which makes them 1600.

My 100 quote is more accurate than your 90, you didn't figure shipping...

I just ain't gonna pay 1400 then 200 and do work...not when waiting a month would save a few hundred. Ain't like I got a shortage of speakers, have sets not even hooked up.

Re: CL Heads Up: Model 19's

OG I'm just stating I think they are in very good condition ! And worth the money, just my opinion that's all.

Your right on the money "To each his own" I guess ! For anything decent sounding, it costs money. It's an expensive hobby to say the least.

FWIW I wouldn't need to buy any (Large or Small) diaphragms.I already have what I need, pretty much.Kinda like you I suppose.
